The Living Water

By Thelma Owens
The woman at the well had no self esteem, she had been married five times and the man she was with was not her husband. But along comes Jesus to bring salvation, restoration and hope. The Father knows where each of us are and if we just tap in to the living waters of God we will never run dry.

Jesus had left Judea and went back to Galilee.  But on the way He had to go through the country of Samaria.

In Samaria Jesus came to the town called Sychar, which is near the field Jacob gave to his son Joseph.  Jacob's well was there.  Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down beside the well.  It was about twelve o'clock noon. A Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, "please give me a drink".

The woman said, "I am suprised that you ask me for a drink, since you are a Jewish man and I am a Samaritan woman." (Jewish people did not mingle with Samaritans.")

Jesus said, "If only you knew the free gift of God and who it is that is asking you for water, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."

The woman said, "Sir, where will you get this living water? The well is very deep, and you have nothing to get water with.  Are you greater than Jacob, our father, who gave us this well and drank from it himself along with his sons and flocks?"

Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give will never be thirsty.  The water I give will become a spring of water gushing up inside that person, giving eternal life." (John 4:4-13) Max Lucado Bible

The woman at the well ran and told everyone about a man who had told her about everything she had done, she had what was describe as a 'gushing' that welled up on the inside so much so that it spilled over on the outside and she could not keep it to herself.  Something that is gushing is a "sudden outpouring" so the living water which the Holy Spirit gives us, we should not be able to contain it. When is the last time you had a gushing feeling that you had to run and tell somebody about Jesus?  When was the last time you took a drink of the living water?

If you feel dry and thirsty maybe it's because you've been drinking from the well that's made by man and not from the well of the eternal God.  If you drink from the well of the Father even in your dry and sometimes lonely places you will never run dry.  The word of the Lord declares if you're hungry He will feed you and if you're thirsty He will give you drink.

Note:  It doesn't matter to Christ who you are, or where you come from, He has made life available to you today.  No matter what you are faced with or what you're going through, Jesus Christ is here to fill you up with His living water, go ahead refresh yourself, and take a drink of Him today. Amen
